CREST.BD joins the UBC community in enthusiastically welcoming Dr. Santa Ono as UBC’s 15th president and vice-chancellor. Dr. Ono has an excellent track record of mental health promotion; in his term as president at the University of Cincinnati (UC), Dr. Ono implemented a policy offering all UC students five free counselling sessions.

Dr. Ono has conducted research on immune system gene regulation and eye inflammation. He has held faculty positions at Johns Hopkins, Harvard, University College London and Emory. He promises to engage with First Nations and be a champion of diversity.

“I am committed to making UBC a better institution,” said Ono. “I will be a strong promoter of diversity, equity and inclusion.”
