Biography

Dane Mauer-Vakil is a PhD candidate in Public Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo in the health evaluation specialization conducting applied research in mental health systems and policies. His academic background is in health psychology (Bachelor of Kinesiology) and health policy (Master of Science in Health Services Research). Dane’s current research focuses include contraband tobacco and vaping products, poverty reduction interventions in primary care, publicly funded psychotherapy services, and cannabis policy in the Canadian context. His doctoral dissertation focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating mental health care quality indicators for youth with bipolar disorder in Ontario.

Dane’s overarching career goal is to improve the lives of individuals with or at risk of bipolar disorder through rigorous health services and policy research. His main objective as a CREST.BD trainee is to begin addressing the research gap in implementation science/knowledge translation and bipolar disorder to increase access to and the quality of mental health services in Canada.

What I do when I'm not working

In my space time I enjoy being physically active (e.g., tennis, hockey, running), listening to podcasts, and reading.
